Tank Technic External Floating Roof (EFR) Rim Seals

Tank Technic has three different types of EFR Floating Roof Rim Seal:
• Mechanical-Shoe seal
• Liquid-Mounted seal
• Vapour-Mounted seal

Our Floating Roof Rim Seals are custom designed to each individual tank in accordance with API 650/653, BS 2654, EN-14.015 and EEMUA-159 and we continue to develop innovative solutions and products to reduce Above-ground Storage Tank (AST) emissions.

Benefits of Floating Roof Rim Seals
External floating roof tanks are equipped with a rim seal system attached to the roof perimeter.  The seal is also in contact with the tank wall against which it slides as the roof is raised and lowered. The floating deck is also equipped with fittings that penetrate the deck to support efficient tank operation. Tank Technic’s roof design minimises both evaporative losses (Standing Storage Loss) from the stored liquid, which only occur from the rim seal and deck fittings, and Withdrawal Loss, from residual media clinging to the tank wall.

In addition to reducing media loss via evaporation, the Tank Technic sealing system for Aboveground Storage Tanks also prevents the ingress of rainwater into the tank, thereby stopping external contamination of stored media.  Further, the sealing materials are selected in accordance with the type of product being stored to ensure optimal media resistance.

Using incorrect products for the exposed face of the seal can lead to premature failure caused by UV degradation.  Tank Technic utilises UV-resistant materials for external surfaces and low-friction, wear-resistant products for the sliding seals.  This ensures effective sealing and a longer service life.

Axial movement of Floating Roofs caused by horizontal forces can result in damage to gauge poles, pipe drain systems and rolling ladders.  Tank Technic’s superior floating roof rim seals dampen and absorb axial movements to enhance the security and protection of your tanks.

In order to optimise the design, the working range of the roof is analysed and the seal is then designed and manufactured to comply with this range, or other approved standards. This can include, for example, API where a range of +/- 4″(102 mm) is required,  or EEMUA 159 and NEN-EN 14015 where a tank seal working range of -X/+3X is needed

Similar design principles are applied to the secondary rim seals, which can be manufactured in a fire-retardant material as required, the performance of which usually exceeds the fire- retardant level.

Finally, Tank Technic secondary rims are designed as low as possible In order to maximise filling capacity.

EFR Floating Roof Rim Seals
Tank Technic’s primary Floating Roof Rim Seals include:

  • TTRS-1/750 Primary Mechanical Shoe Seal
    • TTRS-1/1000 Primary Mechanical Shoe Seal

These can be used either individually or in conjunction with our liquid or foam seals.

When required the TTRS-1 models can be used in combination with the following seals:

  • TTRS-12 Secondary Shoe-Mounted Seal
    • TTRS-6 Primary Liquid Filled Tube Seal
    • TTRS-7/750 Primary Foam Filled Seal
    • TTRS-20P Primary Compression Plate Seal

All Tank Technic EFR Rim Seals can be combined with:

  • TTRS-20S Secondary Compression Plate Seal
    • TTRS-25 Weather Shield

Terminals or refineries often require further tertiary rim seals (Triple Rim Seal).  Tank Technic can provide the extra rim seal as necessary
